Following a deadly shooting that killed two and left several others injured in downtown Orlando early Friday, Nov. 1, the city has issued a local state of emergency and curfew for the area. The emergency order required businesses in the downtown entertainment district to end alcohol sales at midnight, with a curfew of 1 a.m. through 5 a.m.
The curfew and restrictions expired on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 5 p.m. However, the city will apparently continue to crack down on the “street party atmosphere” that “has shifted from a fun, festive space to one that is dangerous and unsafe,” in the words of Executive Director of the Downtown Development Board David Barilla.
To that end, starting Friday, Nov. 15, Orange Avenue and its various side streets will be open to vehicle traffic after years of being closed off on weekend nights.
Electric Daisy Carnival happens at Tinker Field this weekend, Friday-Sunday, Nov. 8-10. Festivities start later today, and the festival will bring thousands of revelers into the downtown Orlando area.
