CrossCurrents looks to unite jazz and Indian music in Orlando this fall

Celebrated tabla master Zakir Hussain is reconvening his ambitious Crosscurrents ensemble with a spectacular new addition to the ranks.

Jazz bassist and composer Dave Holland – a fearsome player who’s worked with Miles Davis and local hero Sam Rivers – is hitting the road with CrossCurrents to explore the conscious and unconscious links between traditional Indian music and Western jazz. The ensemble is rounded out by saxophonist Chris Potter, the great Indian jazz pianist Louiz Banks, his brother Gino Banks on drums, Sanjay Divecha on guitar, and the outstanding Bollywood composer/vocalist Shankar Mahadevan.

There’s an Orlando date set for their tour next month; expect nothing less than masters at the top of their form.

Zakir Hussain’s and Dave Holland’s Crosscurrents ensemble plays the Bob Carr Theater on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $30.
