Baker-Barganier Duo Credit: Charlotte Suarez
It’s true we write a lot about Elizabeth Baker’s various shows, but in our defense she is involved in so many solo and group projects that she seems to put on a different performance every time. Baker and Erich Barganier are touring in support of their new album, …and darkness was upon the face of the deep, which braids together “African-American slave songs, critiques of the American penal system and ruminations of technological dependence” into a sinuous, kinetic helix using experimental electronics, mandolin, toy pianos, miked movement and voice. They’ll be joined at Avalon’s monthly creative-music salon by Preston Beebe, a Montreal-based composer and percussionist, and local musician Steven Head will perform in an electronic/modular synth/live coding trio with Baker and Barganier to wrap up the evening.
