Premieres Wednesday:
Dora — Highlights of Season 3 include an appearance by Danny Trejo as Santa Claus. Wait, you mean he hasn’t been Santa all along? (Paramount+)
The Old Guard 2 — Charlize Theron and her band of ancient mercenaries are back for a sequel to the 2020 hit, in which they have to confront a new menace while Theron’s Andy copes with the loss of her immortality. Yes, it’s a sad rite of passage for any millennia-old warrior when she realizes all the good roles are now going to Florence Pugh. (Netflix)
Tour de France Unchained — This retrospective of the 2024 bike race emphasizes the clash between veterans of the sport and an entire generation of young upstarts. Given that the series is ending with this season, I guess we can assume nobody won. (Netflix)
Premieres Thursday:
The Sandman Season 2 Volume 1 — Also coming to an end is the series adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s dark comic classic, with six new episodes that find Dream reaping the consequences of his past actions. Don’t look now, Neil, but I think they’re trying to tell you something. (Netflix)
Premieres Friday:
All the Sharks — The nature documentary meets the extreme challenge as a bunch of fearless souls are sent across the globe to snap photos of sharks, with the winner receiving a hefty prize of $50,000 for their favorite charity. First runner-up gets to keep all his limbs! (Netflix)
Premieres Tuesday:
Better Late Than Single — Korea sends us a mashup of the dating and self-improvement genres, in which a bunch of folks who have never been in a relationship get expert advice on landing themselves a partner. Now that’s our idea of a makeover: Who Not to Wear. (Netflix)
Nate Jackson: Super Funny — The comic’s first Netflix special whets our appetite for his upcoming “Big Dog” tour. And when I say “our,” I mean Jacksonville and Fort Myers, which are the only two Florida cities on his itinerary. Here’s hoping the special is good, just so Orlando has an excuse to say he’s dead to us. (Netflix)
Quarterback — Season 2 follows the NFL 2024 season exploits of Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals and Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions, as well as offering an update on Season 1 profilee Kirk Cousins, who was with the Minnesota Vikings when last we saw him but now lines up with the Atlanta Falcons. And in the interim, he also somehow became one of the 500 people to outswim Riley Gaines. (Netflix)
Trainwreck: The Real Project X — Inspired by the movie Project X, a bunch of Dutch hooligans capitalized on a party invitation that had mistakenly been shared with all of Facebook. The ensuing orgy of gatecrashing turned into a full-scale riot. And it was still better organized than the Fyre Festival! (Netflix)
