Premieres Wednesday:

Rivers of Fate — Two Brazilians of wildly divergent backgrounds team up to rescue a teenager from human traffickers in a series directed by Fernando Meirelles and his son Quico. Wow, sounds like Take Your Kid to Work Day has taken on some nasty undertones. “See what’ll happen to you if you keep forgetting to take that lens cap off?” (Netflix)

The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox — The exonerated murder suspect herself was an executive producer of this series dramatization of her infamous legal ordeal. Show creator K.J. Steinberg previously worked on This Is Us, which may explain the curious choice to depict Knox’s British roommate as the victim of an exploding crock pot. (Hulu)

Premieres Thursday:

Death Inc. Season 3 — The struggle for control of a funeral-home dynasty is the main plotline of this Spanish comedy series, the first two seasons of which dropped globally last month. If you don’t have time to catch up, you can always watch the first four episodes of Six Feet Under on 1.5x speed with the subtitles on. (Netflix)

Fall for Me — A torrid affair with a nightclub manager threatens to distract a German woman from expressing her disapproval of her sister’s sudden engagement. Yeah, you know it’s serious when one of us Germans can be dragged away from passing judgment. (Netflix)

Gold Rush Gang — The end of World War II could be a windfall for a Thai Robin Hood and his crew, who plot to rob a Japanese train full of gold treasures. The movie is based on the recollections of a real-life thief who did just that, which means you can absolutely trust its accuracy. Because what’s more credible than a Thai criminal’s memories of things that happened 80 years ago? (Netflix)

Hostage — A British prime minister (Suranne Jones) gets caught up in an international conspiracy that involves the kidnapping of her husband and the blackmailing of the French president. Notice the Italian government isn’t represented, since there’s absolutely no way of embarrassing them at this point. (Netflix)

One Hit Wonder — The Filipino pop scene of the 1990s is the setting for a romantic musical drama in which a performing duo find their relationship deepening as their commercial fortunes ascend. What we can learn from this: Meg White was born on the wrong continent. (Netflix)

Premieres Friday:

007: Road to a Million Season 2 — Another group of intrepid contestants takes on some distinctly Bondian challenges in pursuit of £1 million. What nobody knows yet is that Amazon is planning on actually making the winner the next 007. Turns out Idris Elba isn’t as adept at dodging sharks in the Bahamas as his agent led everyone to believe. (Prime Video)

Abandoned Man — Unresolved feelings dangle like the tags on a pillowcase when a Turkish man returns home from prison, where he was serving a sentence for a crime his brother had actually committed. On the plus side, he now gets to skip taking out the garbage for 73 turns in a row. (Netflix)

Aema — In what can only be described as All About Eve Korean-style, a young actress replaces an industry veteran as the lead of a high-profile film project. The movie in question, Madame Aema, was actually a box-office hit in that country in the early 1980s. So get ready to hear a lengthy rundown of inaccuracies from the most annoying person you met when you were studying at Full Sail. (Netflix)

“Invasion” returns for Season 3 on Apple TV+ Credit: image courtesy Apple TV+

Invasion — The diverging narrative perspectives of the series converge in Season 3, with allied human forces mounting a siege of the the alien mothership. Just think: Only a month ago, we would have had no idea how badly this show is missing reaction shots of Ice Cube yelling profanities at his Etsy cart. (Apple TV+)

Long Story ShortBoJack Horseman creator Raphael Bob Waksberg is back with a new animated comedy that looks in on a group of human siblings at different points in their familial history. Just in case you needed to be reminded what a slippery slope it is from doling out noogies to cutting each other out of Mom’s will. (Netflix)

The Truth About Jussie Smollett? — Now that he’s paid 50 large to settle the City of Chicago’s civil suit against him, the hoaxster MAGA loves to hate is free to pursue new career opportunities — like this 90-minute documentary in which he attempts to persuade us he might have been jumped by racist thugs after all. SPOILER: He wasn’t. But you have to hand it to him for deciding that what the current cultural moment really needs is its own Tawana Brawley. (Look it up!) (Netflix)

Premieres Monday:

LEGO Disney Princess: Villains Unite — Ariel, Moana, Tiana, Rapunzel and Snow White stand tall against the threat of the unified Gaston, Ursula, Jafar and the Evil Queen, who have banded together to form their own equivalent of the Legion of Doom. Joining the battle are Aurora, Belle and Cinderella. If a real LEGO set had this many minifigures, it would set you back 300 bucks easy. (Disney+)

Upload — The final four episodes of the series find our cast of overwhelmed humans putting aside their lesser concerns to thwart a malevolent AI that wants to subjugate the Earth. Sounds like a job for Ice Cube, if he can pull himself away from playing the dozens with Temu. (Prime Video)

 Premieres Tuesday:

With Love, Meghan — Since everything went so smoothly last time, Meghan Markle’s lifestyle show is back for a second season, this time welcoming the similarly uncontroversial Chrissy Teigen as a guest. Third time’s the charm, Meghan: If you get renewed again, you should really go for broke and give Jussie Smollett a call. (Netflix)
