Rollins graduate Jonathan Figg has been working on The Bros. for a long time. Now that it’s finally gone straight to DVD release, it’s hard not to wonder if Figg considers the many years of work that went into the comedy to be worth it. The gag ‘ and there really is only one ‘ is that two suburban white kids think that their calling in life is to become gangsta rappers. Of course, they’re hopelessly underqualified for the task. Not only are they sorely lacking as far as the requisite DJ/MC skills go, but their street credibility is not credible. As they attempt to do something about the latter while remaining blissfully unaware of the former, wacky hijinks ensue. Cameos from Carrot Top and Vanilla Ice don’t do much to cover up the stale jokes and one-note storyline (why would they?), but Figg’s goofily sensitive portrayal of the duo makes the Bros.’ quixotic quest inspiring in a pathetic sort of way.
