“It’s like seeing food TV on steroids,” is how Mike McCloud, CEO of the World Food Championships, describes the weeklong event, which takes place Nov. 3-10, 2015, in Celebration.
We’re not sure if that’s supposed to be a deterrent or a draw, but one thing’s for sure, there’s going to be an assload of people (estimated between 5,000 and 10,000 per day, plus competitors, judges, and their support teams) and a literal ton of food in Kissimmee.
The event constructs the largest outdoor cooking arena (sponsor Kenmore will turn Celebration’s Market Street into a giant Kitchen Stadium, Iron Chef-style) and sees home cooks, professional chefs and celebrity chefs face off to win over $300,000 in cash.
This year’s categories include: BBQ, chili (natch), sandwich, burger, pasta, dessert, seafood and — of course — bacon gets its own category.
