Walt Disney World announces free dining plans for 2015

One of the priciest things about visiting Walt Disney World, as anybody who's spent any time there can attest, is dining. The food is part of the experience, so you don't want to eat too many of your meals out of your hotel microwave. And the best (and most cost effective) way to sample the various Disney specialties, character dinners and unique Disney snacks without going completely broke is with a meal plan. Which is why people are so excited to hear that some guests who book their trips by July 10 will be able to get free dining packages with their stay at a Walt Disney World resort.

Guests who book their trip to Disney by July 10 and stay at least three nights (up to a maximum of 14 nights) at a Disney resort during the following dates will receive a dining plan with their stay:

Aug. 28-Oct. 2, 2015
Oct. 25-31, 2015
Nov. 8-19, 2015
Dec. 15-21, 2015

Guests who stay at a Disney value resort will receive dining packages commensurate with what they're spending. So if you stay at a value resort, you'll get a quick-service dining plan, if you stay at a moderate or deluxe resort, you'll get a standard dining plan. And for a fee, you're welcome to upgrade your dining package by paying the difference. Of course.

It's worth noting that you also have to buy a 2-day Magic Your Way Disney ticket with a park-hopper or water park option. So you can't just stay overnight and eat your way around the Disney restaurants – you have to buy tickets to the parks as well.

Other things to remember:
  • Advance reservations are required a most Disney table-service restaurants, and they're usually booked up months in advance. Just because you have a dining plan doesn't mean you'll get to jump to the front of the line.

  • Meal plans give each guest two meals and one snack per person for every night you stay at a Disney resort property.

  • Gratuities are not included, so you still have to tip your servers even if you're using the dining plan.

  • It should probably go without saying that quantities are limited. So if you're hoping to get in on this deal, you probably shouldn't wait.
