Tricky Bohemian brunch, Twinkies back on shelves, the Science of Wine and more

The new Sunday brunch at the Bohemian Hotel Celebration ($34.95 adults; $15.95 children 4-12) promises to be a magical one. Not so much for the food (though the seared salmon with three-cheese polenta cake and saffron butter sauce does sound enchanting), but for the presence of sleight-of-hand artist Kostya Kimlat and his merry band of magicians. So long as the rabbits pulled from their hats don’t wind up on plates, the tableside magic act should go over well. Brunch is served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

You may see Twinkies stocked on the shelves of your local 7-Eleven by the end of July. The private equity groups that purchased Hostess’ snack cakes line announced that bakeries around the country will reopen to crank out the cream sponges, and Ho Hos too.

Charley’s Wildfire Grille, a rebrand of the original Charley’s Steakhouse on South OBT that offered a more affordable menu, has closed. But fret not, my petits mignons – come the summer of 2014, CWG will reopen off Little Lake Bryan in Lake Buena Vista.

If you’re on the fence about dropping a thou for the big 10th anniversary gala at Norman’s at the Ritz-Carlton, maybe this will sway your decision: In addition to Van Aken, Trotter, Lagasse, Fearing and Tower, local chefs Scott Hunnel (Victoria & Albert’s) and Brandon McGlamery (Luma, Prato) will also join in on the fun. BTW: That $1,000 price tag includes a one-night stay at the Ritz.

Rocco’s Italian Grille in Winter Park, certainly one of the finer Italian restaurants in town, celebrates its seventh anniversary with a number of new entrees, many priced in the $15-$17 range … The Orlando Science Center hosts the Science of Wine event 7-10 p.m. Saturday, May 11. For $75, you can sample more than 100 wines from around the world and fare from many local restaurants, including MoonFish, Hawkers, the Palm and more.
