Details are still being worked out, but sources from the Parliament House (and their calendar!) confirm a summer series of The Daily City Food Truck Bazaars, scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday June 26, July 24 and Aug. 28. I’ll find out more about the event later today — fingers crossed — like which trucks will participate and what other entertainment might be planned. It’s probably a bad day for a foam party, but Bananas has proven that drag queens and chicken-n-waffles go together like Sonny and Cher, so I can’t wait to hear if any Bazaar-specific amusements will accompany the mobile cuisine.
Even without all the details, this sounds like a blast. P-House plans to roll out their portable bars, so between their ‘tenders and the treats from the food trucks, a decadent time will be had. Public service announcement from Billy Manes: “Don’t forget the condom-mints on that burger.” (Sorry, I just COULD NOT resist.)
And not only is this a chance for attendees to tie on a vicious cupcake-and-daiquiri hangover, it’s (all serious now) a chance for food truck nation to roll into a new customer base. The food truck craze has gotten so huge, so fast, that I worry a little about its sustainability. Will the trend still be huge in two years, while chefs are still paying off their tricked-out mobile kitchens? Any event that broadens the base is a good thing. Besides, think about how much fun you had with just the food trucks and a DJ in a parking lot. Now do this math: food trucks + DJ + pool party + piano bar + go-go dancers? Could be EPIC.
