The spot comes from James Beard Award finalists Jason and Sue Chin of Good Salt Restaurant Group and Chef Wendy Lopez of Reyes Mezcaleria, and it’s located just 100 feet away from Reyes Mezcaleria at 807 N. Orlando Ave.
Sparrow launched into soft-opening mode Tuesday ahead of its grand opening, which is set for June 9.
Sparrow’s wine and tapas menu will tie in Lopez’s Spanish heritage and culinary experience with French, Italian and Portuguese flavors and techniques.
The intimate 1,978-square-foot lounge, named after the “small but dynamic” bird, will offer a drinks menu that includes curated wines and cocktails by Good Salt’s beverage director Lorena Castro.
Sparrow’s food menu, however, will feature dishes like tuna and salmon crudo, jamon iberico, short rib ragù and filet mignon au poivre. Desserts include an almond sponge cake with coffee liqueur and chocolate mousse, basque cheesecake and a burnt vanilla ice cream.
The bar and lounge will also offer an afternoon tea party on select weekends and a late night menu available from 9 to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 p.m. to midnight Friday through Saturday. Late night dishes range from a tinned fish pasta to the cheekily named “Girl Dinner”: a chicken schnitzel and Little Gem Caesar salad.
Sparrow’s soft opening hours are 5 to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 5 to 11 p.m. Friday through Saturday. Walk-ins are welcome and reservations are accepted through OpenTable.
Parking is located at the garage on Park Lake Street with valet options coming soon, according to a post from the lounge’s Instagram.
