While shopping at your local supermarket, do you ever wonder where the groceries you buy come from? A faraway, mass-producing orchard in the middle of we-don’t-even-know-where, probably. But if you’ve ever stopped by the Homegrown Food Co-op Farm Store, you know exactly where your produce, meats and dairy products are harvested – local towns like Apopka, Oviedo and Kissimmee. That’s because the Farm Store, a steadfast backer of the eat-local effort, only carries sustainable products from growers and producers in the Central Florida area. This week the market moves a few blocks down the road and sets up shop at the downtown Orlando library. Shoppers will get a chance to meet the faces behind their food, as 15 of Homegrown’s producers will be on hand at the event. Shop for fruit jams and chutneys from Longwood’s Sunchowder’s Emporia, vegan cupcakes from Raphsodic Bakery, cage-free eggs from Ocoee’s Lake Meadow Naturals, treats from Apopka’s Heavenly Flan and more.
