College Park Diner — one of the oldest eateries in Orlando — has permanently closed.

The diner was ordered to close temporarily due to health code violations, according to state inspection records, and ultimately decided to close permanently, as reported by Bungalower.

Bungalower also reported that the owners offered an explanation through a comment via College Park Diner’s Facebook account, which has since been deactivated:

“We conducted a full wall flush treatment through our pest control provider as part of a proactive pest control plan we implemented due to a recent isolated issue. The treatment occurred prior to opening and, as expected with a building that’s over 70 years old, it stirred up activity behind the walls,” they wrote.

They said they began cleaning immediately as part of their planned follow-up, but the Department of Health inspector arrived to investigate a complaint regarding the issue as they were working toward resolving it.

“Due to visible pest activity caused by the flush and our active cleanup efforts, we were issued a closure order,” they wrote. “While we were given the option to clean and reopen, we made the difficult decision to permanently close instead.”

A handwritten sign on the door read, “Out of business! Toodles,” as of Bungalower’s reporting last week.

Located at 2304 Edgewater Drive*, the restaurant’s closure follows its first “PAPI Drag Brunch” on June 14 — seen as a last-ditch effort to increase foot traffic for the diner that was already struggling financially.

The owners shared on their Instagram account, which has since been deactivated, that sales were down and costs were going up. The diner’s official website remains, but has been wiped of all content.

“If we close, you’ll be left with Denny’s,” the owners wrote.

It is unknown what will replace the restaurant.

Originally dubbed College Park Cafe when it opened in 1951, College Park Diner’s current owners, Joey Eckenfels and Alan Saunders — who first purchased the restaurant in October 2021 — renamed and upgraded it following a fire last December.
