Island Fin Poke Co., by the owners of Winter Springs' Big Kahuna's Island Style Bowls, has opened in Celebration. As part of its expansion plans, Big Kahuna's will change its name to Island Fin Poke Co. as well. Look for an outpost to open in the Morgan & Morgan building downtown early next year ... Also downtown, LePho, serving rice bowls, noodles, subs and pho, has opened ... Peter's Kitchen China Bistro has opened in the space previously occupied by Gaviota Brasas on East Colonial Drive ... Grills Lakeside on Lake Fairview is shooting for a Dec. 12 opening ... Look for Buffalo, New York-based The Healthy Scratch, serving everything from cold-pressed juices and smoothies to grain bowls and avocado toast, to open in South Eola.
(PRE-)CLOSINGS: Chef Clayton Miller's food-hall concept that was to go into the Maitland City Centre won't. The team behind the project says the landscape of "upcoming restaurants and retailers" led them to "reconsider the sustainability of the project due to oversaturation" ... Also not opening: Leguminati, the all-vegan eatery that was to open in the Sandwich Bar in the Milk District.
NEWS: Kadence has expanded their walk-in hours to Mondays noon to 6 p.m., Wednesdays 4:30-9 p.m., and Thursdays-Saturdays 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sushi tasting menus start at $55 and include 10 pieces of sushi, soup and dessert ... Vietnamese banh mi joint Boston Bakery on East Colonial Drive has expanded into the space next door.
EVENTS: Cress Restaurant in DeLand will hold two fundraising dinners on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 1 and 2, to support hurricane victims in Puerto Rico. Cost is $140 per couple, or $280 for a table of four ... On Sunday, Dec. 3, DeVine Wine & Grill serves a four-course meal with red wines from Napa and Sonomoa Counties with proceeds benefiting the Napa Valley Community Disaster Relief Fund ... K Restaurant's Truffle Dinner is Monday, Dec. 4, at 6:30 p.m. The five-course meal with wine pairings goes for $120.
