Fringe favorites PUSH Physical Theatre — New York-based creators of the acclaimed shows Hyde and Generic Male — are back with a brand-new work that integrates their animated athleticism with pantomime illusions, pratfalls and visual poetry. Push’s latest show starts with Heather Stevenson intoning a guided meditation within the darkening theater. As her voice continues, Darren Stevenson and Ashley Jones gracefully levitate her into the air, their gravity-defying bodies reflecting the loosely linked skits’ and monologues’ ambivalent observations about domestic bliss — from the frustrations of sharing a bed and bathroom to sacrificing one’s life for a squabbling sibling.

Perhaps nothing demonstrates that Push’s range extends beyond mere physical comedy than Stevenson’s sob-inducing mid-show turn as an elderly lady with trembling hands, immediately followed by the men’s sinuous weight-sharing shadowplay set to Gungor’s “Am I.” Home[sic]’s press preview didn’t quite reach the heights of their first Fringe hit, with some muddy audio tracks and transitions that need tightening, but it’s already in better shape than their show was at this point last year, and that one ended up being superb.

Whether wrestling over a birthday suit or cozy comforter, flailing about in a furry hat and overstuffed backpack, or transforming a walker into a work of art, Push’s terrifically talented trio haven’t lost their knack for skillful slapstick that sticks with you long after the laughter ends.
