Everything Is Awesome when you’re part of a Lego Printmaking Workshop team

If you’ve never witnessed the printing process, it can seem like a magic trick: Layer after layer of color is laid down, one shape atop the next, until a comprehensible image emerges from the chaos. With an experienced guide, however, anyone can build a beautiful picture, and graphic designer Chris Ware will lead you through it in this workshop – in addition to his own fine art printmaking, he teaches a fun technique using Lego blocks and tiles to form simple images, so no carving or drafting skills are necessary. On his website, Ware says of his Lego prints, “The series focuses on how technology is becoming more of a reality than the tangible world. I am intrigued by how technology affects the developmental process and where this may lead us as a society, but perhaps I am just ‘old-fashioned’ in that I still prefer three-dimensional.” Push back at the pixels that rule our lives by making something with your hands this weekend.
