Murs cemented his place in hip-hop history in 2016 when he broke the Guinness World Record for longest nonstop rap, improvising a rhyme that sprawled on for over 24 continuous hours. But that’s just another chapter in the busy career of this LA rap firebrand – a career that takes in everything from the peerless Felt project with Atmosphere’s Slug, a series of collaborations with 9th Wonder, the brief foray into the world of major labels that was Murs for President, heavy-as-fuck 2017 single “Melancholy,” and the surrealist pop-culture blender that was “Superhero Pool Party.” This year sees Murs releasing a beer, Murs Cherry and Waffles, and heading out on the road with West Coast underground luminary – and collaborator on the epic, affecting “Stars” – Locksmith. And the local scene comes out swinging, represented by Sean Shakespeare and E-Turn.
