Two-term U.S. Rep. Stephanie Murphy announced Tuesday she is filing to run for re-election in Florida's 7th Congressional District.

"It's official: I'm running for re-election," the Winter Park Democrat tweeted yesterday afternoon from her campaign account. "I want to keep fighting for you in Congress and for jobs, security, and opportunity for all Americans."

Murphy, the first Vietnamese-American woman elected to Congress, was first elected to her seat in 2016 after defeating Republican incumbent John Mica. She essentially coasted to re-election last year, and was appointed to the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee in December.

The only opponent Murphy has drawn so far is 23-year-old Winter Springs resident Armani Salado, a political science major at the University of Central Florida who's running as a Republican.
