Florida Gov. Rick Scott isn't taking any chances with Hurricane Irma, which is now on track to hit parts of Florida.

Scott has activated 100 members of the Florida National Guard as the state prepares for Hurricane Irma, according to a statement from his office.

Scott has also directed 7,000 of the Florida National Guard to report for duty Friday morning.

"With Hurricane Irma now a category 5 storm, we must do all we can to prepare our families and communities for any potential impact from this major weather event," said Scott. "We do not know the exact path of this storm, but weather can change in an instant and while we hope for the best, we must prepare for the worst.”

The 100 enacted National Guard members will advise the governor on needed resources throughout the state. Scott also said if resources are needed before the 7,000 members are called to duty Friday, he will activate as many National Guards as he can before then.

Late Monday night, Scott declared a state of emergency for the entire state as Hurricane Irma is expected hit land later this week.
