Floridians killed the presidential aspirations of their own senator on Super Tuesday when Republican voters preferred businessman Donald Trump over U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio by almost 19 points.

Rubio suspended his campaign after the humiliating loss in his home state, telling his supporters, “While we are on the right side, this year we will not be on the winning side.”

“It is not God’s plan that I’ll be president in 2016 or maybe ever and today my campaign is suspended,” Rubio says, according to a video of his speech at Florida International University in Miami.

The Florida Division of Elections reports Rubio lost to Trump by a margin of 27 percent to 45.7 percent. U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz came in a far third, winning 17 percent of Florida's Republican voters.
