King Kong is a massive ape, so it makes sense that Universal would have to create a massive new vehicle to transport guests through the new attraction coming to Islands of Adventure.

On Tuesday, Universal Orlando's blog revealed new details about the expedition vehicle guests will board while riding Skull Island: Reign of Kong, the theme park's latest Kong-related attraction after closing Kongfrontation in 2002

The truck measures over 40 feet long and 13 feet high and has the capacity to carry 72 passengers. It also has front and back axles that can be steered independently, which allows the truck to take sharp turns.

The vehicle also marks a first for the theme park: an all-terrain vehicle with a completely trackless system.

There will also be five unique drivers with distinct personalities in each vehicle, so guests have the opportunity to get a different experience over multiple rides.

The characters include:
  • Becky Callahan: The loose-cannon cowgirl who isn’t fazed by the dangers awaiting her on Skull Island.
  • Will Denham: The fresh-faced, adventure-seeking younger cousin of famed movie director Carl Denham.
  • Jinks Costanza: A hardened New York City ex-con who is wary of the island’s mysteries.
  • Kalana: A mystical descendent of the natives who first settled on the island.
  • Charles “Doc” Jordan: A Ph.D student in paleontology who took time off from his studies to explore the world.
The 3-D ride, located between Toon Lagoon and Jurassic Park, will take guests through a 1930s prehistoric island expedition, where dinosaurs and the big ape himself fight for dominance.

Skull Island: Reign of Kong is set to open sometime this summer.
