
While the underlying wildness of Florida is a decidedly mixed sociocultural blessing, it can pay big artistic dividends. Take, for instance, theatrical South Florida black-metal act Worm, who are a prime specimen of our norm-smashing depravity. Their horror pulp fantasy is an affront to mainstream taste, the kind of pure excess and extremity that pushes symphonic black metal out to the brink of evil camp with haunted, Vincent Price-worthy castle sounds.
This is some seriously outré shit here — outrageous enough, in fact, to attract Megadeth shredder Marty Friedman as first a fan and then a musical guest on Worm’s latest album, Necropalace. Opening are similarly menacing local bands Druid Lord and Pontifex. So let’s see how ace your corpse-paint game is.
