Stalwart arts-supply destination Sam Flax has announced an imminent move from its longtime Colonialtown location, with the building going up for sale.
The somewhat jarring announcement came via social media this week, though it was framed as a positive move by the owners: “We are moving and we couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead! Our new location will be home to everything you love and MORE!”
Sam Flax has been at its current location at 1800 E. Colonial Drive since 2011, though the business has been operating in Orlando since the 1990s.
Per Orlando Business Journal, the property has just been put up for sale by the building’s owners — Bishop Wood Partners — for an asking price of $5.3 million. (If it ends up as an arts-store-themed craft cocktail bar, we’re going to lose what’s left of our minds.)
Beyond the announcement of a move out of their Mondrian-esque, mural-festooned building, no indication has been given of a timeline for closure, or indeed where Sam Flax will end up. A search is currently underway for suitable locations.
“We can’t wait to welcome you into this next era of Sam Flax,” said Sam Flax management in the announcement of the move. A fair chunk of Orlando creatives will be waiting as well.
