Trevor Saint performs ‘New Music for a Re-imagined Instrument’ at UCF

It’s a shame, but Trevor Saint is unlikely to perform Matthew Burtner’s “Syntax of Snow,” a piece written for glockenspiel and amplified snow, while here in Orlando – the logistics of obtaining snow, to say nothing of the rapidly melting dynamics, would be a challenge.

The world’s only performer of solo glockenspiel recitals may, however, play “Swarms of Light in Metal,” a recent work for electronics and bells composed for specifically for him by Jeff Herriott. (You can listen to a recording below.) Saint and UCF professor Thad Anderson, the tuned percussion wizard who alerted us to this recital, are also unlikely to perform together, and that’s also a shame, but one can always hope.
