Paradise, the spring-green complex of gay fun and cheap drinks perched across the street from the Peacock Room, may seem an odd choice for an art opening. (Neighbors Sip and the Peacock seem to dominate that game.) But
did we mention the drinks are really, really cheap there? The high-octane, Hi-Fructose-friendly drawings of Austin James are best enjoyed with a cheap-ass pitcher in hand (and sludgy noise in the ears – see band lineup, left), populated as they are by smoking chimps, puking chicks, suckling demons, bitey dinosaurs and rapey Cthulhu. Don’t let the lowbrow content fool you, though; the amount of work and detail put into each deranged scene is impressive. – Jessica Bryce Young
