Tuesday, May 14An Evening With David Sedaris at the Linda Chapin Theater, Orange County Convention CenterPhoto by Ingrid Christie Credit: Ingrid Christie
David Sedaris hit the public consciousness on National Public Radio with Santaland Diaries, an account of his work as a department store elf – and 10 books later, that’s probably still his best-known work. But missing out on Sedaris’ autobiographical, semi-autobiographical and/or completely imagined fictions is a big mistake. In interviews, Sedaris presents as the mildly eccentric next-door neighbor everyone wishes they had. On the page, he careens from arch bitchiness to miserable gloom to perverse hilarity; the most simple event is rendered incongruous when related through Sedaris’ screen of oddity. So even though this interview presented by WMFE-FM may weigh heavy on the pleasant 62-year-old charm, he’ll sign attendees’ copies of his books – and who knows what he’ll write?
