Like an unholy combination of the annual Orlando Zine Fest and Punk Rock Flea Market and so much more, the debuting Freak Shop event (like the two aforementioned events, also outdoors at Will’s) is bursting with pure DIY potential and idealism. This is a formidable and free gathering of zine creators, artists, small record labels, artisans and clothiers from all across the state, with a plethora of different aesthetics but all bonded by a fiercely independent (punk, sure, but again more than that) ethos. Bring money, because the one-of-a-kind treasures and labors of love on offer will be plentiful. After the market proper, there will be an aftershow at Grumpy’s (not free, but a benefit show), featuring an equally feral gathering of noisemakers from up and down Florida, from Tampa to Tallahassee, along with stellar locals like the Nightmare and Red Rodeo.
