We’ve been following the work of reed maestro/composer Jim Ivy for a couple of decades now, and in all that time the only consistent element in his work is the relentless need to keep moving forward. A go-to freak for garage bands and noise-rock ensembles alike, Ivy is also a fearless conductor and bandleader. As a player himself, he understands that, though there is much joy to be found in the exhilaration of solo performance, it’s even more exciting and thrilling to pair that freedom with empathetic collaboration with fellow players at the top of their respective games. On Sunday, Ivy reconvenes his large Tangled Bell Ensemble – a who’s-who of regional greats – to present “Pisang Zapra,” a tribute of sorts to Dadaist Tristan Tzara. We’ll go out on a limb and count this as the kickoff of INC week in Orlando, with noise and experimental shows almost every single night; but of course, that’s a lucky coincidence of timing, and this is so much more.
