Crouching behind the stylings of Boards of Canada and Aphex Twin, you can find Trayer Tryon with his sketchbook and voice recorder. In the course of this gonzo composition are tracks that have samples from a patchwork of instruments and mechanisms rearranged by Tryon in a way that results in a wilderness of rippling, unpredictable measures. ‘Wanderlust, Fast Shoe!â? relies primarily on computer-programmed beats, whereas ‘Carbon Copy Nouktoub Ritualâ? employs all kinds of natural pandemonium, such as guitar, hand drums and even structured fragments of a piece of metal clanging against the blade of a fan. With ‘A+â? he took all of those old-school tunes and ’90s ‘jams that kickedâ? and meshed them together, each with their three seconds of response, to make a 10-minute trek of nostalgia.
