If you needed a perfect mix of the Hellacopters’ rifftastic rockola and the grinding heaviness of Entombed, the right guy to call would be Nicke Andersson. He’s the leader of the Hellacopters, for years was the drummer in the Entombed and is now the brains behind the crushingly excellent Death Breath. While the retarded moniker and track titles like ‘Christ All Fucking Mightyâ?� may give an indication as to how seriously Andersson views the band’s chances of commercial success, there’s no denying the potency of the Stinking‘s 10 tracks. Evoking the full-bore, headsplitting heaviness of Entombed with an extra dose of At the Gates’style percussive propulsion, this shamelessly retrograde disc is near-perfect from beginning to end, providing a quick primer on death metal at its most visceral.
