Few modern electronic pop acts have made a mark as distinctive as Baltimore’s Future Islands. Riding a vivid line between New Romantic synth-pop and dance rock, they’ve become indie sensations with svelte songs that elegantly pair effervescence and drama.

Their legend has been further etched by their live shows, particularly the singular energy of singer Sam Herring. Like some sort of concert Rorschach test, his offbeat stage presence – fueled by a background in performance art – is a famously polarizing thing known to simultaneously uplift and confound people. Those songs, though, are indisputable.

7 p.m., Tuesday, May 20, The Beacham, $32.50-$132.50.
