Here Come the Mummies (not to be confused with Californian garage rock band the Mummies) keep their real identities under wraps (get it?), supposedly to protect the contractual obligations of a Grammy-winner or two in their roster. Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, this 13-piece band of undead Egyptians brings the funk of 5,000 years to the stage. If there’s one way to describe this group of animated corpses, it’s horny. Not just because their horn section is killer, but because their songs are full of tongue-in-cheek, unsubtle double-entendre and just-as-sexed-up single-entendre, like “Attack of the Wiener Man.” (It’s about exactly what you think it’s about.) Their focus on costumes and sex jokes would make them a novelty if it weren’t for the fact that they’re actually a super-tight party funk band, capable of getting even the dustiest of asses up and shaking.
