If you really want to get the full experience out of this local production of the legendary 1960s musical (which was later adapted into a film starring Liza Minnelli and directed by Bob Fosse), don’t miss the immersive preshow experience. Arrive two hours before curtain time and see the Abbey transformed into the seedy Kit Kat Klub, the 1930s Berlin theater where Cabaret takes place. It’s a fully interactive experience, complete with variety acts and mini performances inspired by the Weimar Republic era – and there will be complimentary champagne. Even if you don’t spring for the VIP, the show itself promises to be a winner: Local favorite Blue Star choreographed the production, which is directed by Artful Events’ Kenny Howard. She also stars in the role of Sally Bowles, opposite Robert Stack as Cliff. But seriously, do the preshow. The ticket will cost you a little more, but how often does a local production re-create a Nazi-era nightclub in your own backyard?

8 p.m. (prehow begins at 6 p.m.) | through Feb. 14 | The Abbey, 100 S. Eola Drive | 407-704-6261 | $25-$90
