OK, now that Halloween is over … who’s ready for Christmas? Wait, didn’t there used to be a holiday called Thanksgiving in between? Before you begin trimming the tree – or turkey, for that matter – take some time out to support some of these cultural efforts; we’re certain the artists involved will give thanks for your patronage.

You can simultaneously show your support for a local library and your favorite Time Lord (Baker, Eccleston, Tennant or Smith?) at the Winter Park Public Library’s WHOSTOCK Saturday, Nov. 16. Celebrate 50 years of Doctor Who with trivia, T-shirts and TARDIS-themed fun, to benefit WPPL.

Acme Superstore and the Central Florida Face and Body Painting Guild are teaming up Nov. 30 for a fundraiser supporting the family of Brian Wolfe, a local special-effects makeup artist who recently succumbed to pancreatic cancer. Beer and sangria are free with a $10 donation, and toy and art sales will help Wolfe’s wife and daughter handle the mountains of medical bills.

May is still six months away, but Orlando’s Fringe Festival season really starts Dec. 2 with Merry Fringein’ Christmas at Orlando Shakes. Attendees don’t just get an evening of entertainment, auctions and alcohol, all hosted by Michael Wanzie and Mitzi Morris – they’re also the first to know which performers have won the lottery for spots in the 2014 Fringe.
