View to a thrill

Years from now, Monday night's City Council meeting at Boone High School will be remembered as the final public duty of longtime city clerk Grace Chewning, who spent 47 years in Orlando city government. (She started as a cemetery clerk when she was 16.)

But some might still be smiling as they remember it as the meeting Mayor Glenda Hood made a wisecrack about her chief administrative officer's behind.

Her comment came while school children were handing out little Christmas-tree presents. Several commissioners picked up their presenters and kissed them while a cameraman snapped their picture. But Richard Levey, the city's chief administrative officer, bent over to have his picture taken.

That put his posterior in direct view of Hood. "I wish I had a camera for this angle," she joked.

May the new year see more cheeky humor from Orlando's often prim mayor.
