Time for a raise?

Remember that the federal minimum wage is $5.15? Seems that local folks, business leaders and even the federal government itself don't agree that's enough.

A February survey by Workforce 2020, a program of the Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce that helps bring together poor workers and potential employers, came up with some interesting results. It asked a cross-section of people, "How much does it take to support a family of four?" Fifty-six percent gave an answer of more than $20,000, which means we're talking about at least $10 an hour. Workforce 2020 held meetings and focus groups with business leaders, who also decided that a living wage for an Orlando family would need to be at least $10 an hour. The federal poverty level for a family of four is $16,700, which works out to about $8 an hour.
