Owned by a former mayor, Orlando’s historic ‘Sioux Villa’ home is now for sale

A newly renovated waterfront home originally built for Orlando's 13th mayor, Mahlon Gore, is now on the market in Orlando.

Located at 60 Waverly Place, just outside of downtown Orlando, the three-story, 3,168-square-foot home includes four bedrooms and three full bathrooms, and has waterfront access to Lake Copeland. The home is being sold by Susie Wilson, of Susie Wilson Real Estate. The estate is currently asking $1,297,777.

Restored in 2022 for the first time since 1996, this historic prairie colonial-style home was built in 1906 after the mayor's move to Florida from Sioux Falls, Iowa. The property has been dubbed "Sioux Villa" after Gore's Iowa home.

Through decades of change and restoration, odes to the home's origins remain, like the 300-year-old oak tree standing just outside the entryway. Some noteworthy features include huge rooms, detail-paned windows, a leaded-glass transom, original pine floors, ornate millwork and an expansive waterfront deck, as well as modern touches and upgrades throughout the house.
