The Van Zant House, where Ronnie, Donnie and Johnny Van Zant spent their formative years before starting massively successful bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd and .38 Special, is now for sale in Florida.
Located at
5419 Woodcrest Rd in Jacksonville's Westside, the home was built in 1950 and comes with eight lots, the main house, a fourplex and a manufactured home.
According to property records, the Van Zant House is currently owned by Blue Horizon Property Solutions of Jacksonville Beach, which purchased it for $67,500 in 2015 and has been using it for short-term vacation rentals starting at
$80 a night.
"Much of the structure was built by Lacy Van Zant himself along with members of the family and local friends and neighbors," says the rental listing. "It is being restored to look like it did in the 1960's and 1970's (sort of like Graceland) with a few modern touches."
In 2018, a
historical marker was put up in front of the house, deeming the property a Florida Heritage Site.
"That house was our life, that neighborhood was our neighborhood," Johnny Van Zant told the
Times-Union in 2018. "We all learned how to play drums in that house, we all learned how to swing on the swing-set out there — that's where we learned to sing. We didn't have 700 channels like today. We didn't have nothing but four channels. We weren't super rich."
The "cradle of Southern Rock" is now asking $629,000, and the listing agent is Todd Smith with Blue Horizon Real Estate.
