THANKSGIVING ON ICE 


Don’t drive too fast or you’ll miss it. The tiny shack on International Drive in the shadows of Wet ’n Wild is easy to pass by if you’re not careful. Although Muse Gelato is small, the flavors that owner Brandon Moss packs into his gelati and sorbets are anything but diminutive. After only two years, Muse has developed a loyal clientele with followers from Dr. Phillips to Oviedo.

Muse boats over 135 rotating flavors (and yes, they take requests) from edgy chocolate cabernet to over-the-top banana split to a to-die-for strawberry. Because gelato incorporates less air than ice cream and contains less fat, the flavors are concentrated, and each of Muse’s gelati are undoubtedly tasty.

For Thanksgiving this year, Muse has created gelati flavored in the style of a traditional dinner. The flavors are available Nov. 12-21, and they are worth the I-4 battle to tourist town. While the turkey sorbet, made from rich turkey stock, may not be for all palates, there’s no denying that this sweet treat is redolent of the holiday fowl. Tangy cranberry sorbet is followed by a delicate buttered-pea gelato. The sweet potato pie gelato stole the show, laced with marshmallows and cherry-studded pineapple.

Whether enjoying a single serving (small, $3; large, $4) or taking home a pint to give thanks over ($7), this Thanksgiving feast won’t require a three-hour nap afterward.
