”I will forever have Van Dyke Parks' 1968 album Song Cycle twirling in my head. The album glitters and evokes so much intense imagery of a place that seems so tangible and fruitful. Lately, Cardiacs' Sing to God has enlightened me. The album somehow makes perfect sense in all its madness and stimulates my brain to a state of clarity. Then there's Loveless by My Bloody Valentine and the fact that there are two different remastered versions available now that I have been geeking out over. The album has carried me through a whole decade and it's never lost its spark or sincerity. Lastly, there is John Maus, of whom I've been a devoted fan since the release of his first album in 2006, Songs. Yes, I will admit I've been listening to his songs at least once a week for six years!”

Local psych act Sloppy Kisses play Will's Pub with the Royal Tinfoil 8 p.m. Thursday, May 31. Admission is $5. Sloppy Kisses is currently prepping their debut album, produced by Yip-Yip's Brian Esser. Check them out at sloppykisses.bandcamp.com.
