Rotation: What local artists are listening to

This Week: Michelle Beebs of Beebs & Her Money Makers

"Funk is the name of my musical game. As of late, it's been a nice little combo of Earth, Wind and Fire, the Brothers Johnson, Al Green, James Brown, Bill Withers and Gil Scott-Heron. For me, there is no other genre that can take me from zero to 60 in no time flat. The tight, on-point horn licks and grooves are so inspiring to my soul that, in my opinion, the only way to start the day off right is with some funk-soul. I guess that's why one of my favorite current bands would have to be Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band out of Asheville, North Carolina. They do the funk up right."

(Beebs & Her Money Makers celebrate the release of their debut album, Welcome to Barter Town, 7:30 p.m. Sunday, June 25 at House of Blues with Everyday Ghosts and Palmer Reed. Admission is $5. Their music can be heard at beebsandhermoneymakers.com)
