This week: Damion Suomi

"I've never really been that big of a Bruce Springsteen fan, but about two months ago a friend of mine and I were talking about Pete Seeger when he brought up Springsteen's We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions. I was completely blown away by it on the very first listen, and even now, about 100 listens later, it still moves me every time. It's comprised of Seeger songs and old folk songs popularized by Seeger, but the delivery and passion recorded on the album is what makes it so special. They somehow captured how much fun they had recording this album. Crying violins, screaming horns, big gang vocals, strumming guitars and classic stories. It's as if you can hear them smiling."

(Damion Suomi & the Minor Prophets' new album, Go, And Sell All of Your Things will be released by Hopeless Records on April 12. The CD release show is 8:30 p.m., Friday, April 1 at the Social with Louis DeFabrizio and Lauris Vidal. Admission is $10.)
