"One album that keeps finding its way on is Girls' Albumand their follow up EP, 2010's Broken Dreams Club – simple songs, low-budget recording, great vibe. They come out of San Francisco and have a surf/garage/pop feel with an edgy type of sound. The first track I heard was ‘God Damned,' which consisted only of acoustic guitar, bongos and a
vibraslap. I downloaded their album after that first listen. Something about the roughness of the album really sets it apart, and who says you need a huge budget (or any at all) to make good music these days?"

(Local pop-rock act Circus plays Firestone Live 7 p.m. Saturday, July 9 with SKIP, Ty Hickson & the 35mms and 40 Long. Admission is $10-$12 and advance tickets can be purchased at the band's Facebook page, facebook.com/thebandcircus.)
