Rotation: What local artists are listening to

This week: Drew Yardis

“Recently, I’ve been indulging in the bluegrass, folk and rock sounds of the Avett Brothers. The band consists of two siblings, Scott and Seth Avett, who play banjo, guitar, piano, etc. Their touring members are Bob Crawford on stand-up bass, Joe Kwon on cello and Jacob Edwards on drums. I found myself with free tickets to Orlando Calling and decided to take my 4-year-old son to see his favorite band. Not only are they great at taking rock & roll, bluegrass, country, folk, punk and pop and blending everything into a powerhouse of melody and harmonies, but they are also exceptional live performers. My son and I had a blast – from the stands, of course. It was one of the best folk-rock shows that I’ve seen. If they come to town, be sure to get a ticket. It’s well worth the price.”

The Drew Yardis Project plays at 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13 at Tanqueray’s. Admission is free.
