The big losers in redistricting? The residents of Spring Lake Manor who wanted to dump Commissioner Daisy Lynum and pick up Vicki Vargo, considered by many to be more responsive and proactive.
Residents of the subdivision, located in the Rock Lake neighborhood where Lynum also lives, attended so many meetings that redistricting chairwoman Joan Ruffier mentioned their civic involvement at Monday's city council meeting: "We encourage you to be sensitive to their concerns and please understand where they are coming from."
Would Lynum take Ruffier's advice? Fat chance. From the dais, Lynum blasted her constituents: "I'm sorry your committee had to deal with this rudeness and abrasiveness from my neighbors."
Lynum left chambers before her constituents could counterattack: "Mrs. Lynum's inability to unite or include her constituents is another example of `her` poor leadership," said David van Gelder, who advocated moving Spring Lake Manor out of Lynum's district.
