Police Beat

March 23

(2010-137582) 9:54 p.m.: Police found a man shot several times in the back of a housing complex in the 1000 block of Carter Street. He was taken to the hospital, but was "uncooperative" with police. Maybe nobody shot him.

March 24

(2010-138587) 11 a.m.: Someone broke into a closet at the Citrus Bowl on West Church Street and took several cases of toilet paper and liquid soap. They got clean away.

March 25

(Kissimmee PD): After a two-day investigation of Internet prostitution, cops arrested three men and six women — mostly on prostitution-related charges, with one drug charge thrown in. Kissimmee Police Chief Fran Iwanski said prostitution breeds drugs, robbery and burglary. On the other hand, it does keep people busy.

(2010-140091) 6:45 a.m.: A teenager was heading for the school bus at The Villages on Millenia Boulevard when a guy with a fauxhawk asked to use his cell phone. Rebuffed, he grabbed the phone and ran. The lesson here, kids, is never to loan your phone … uh … never refuse your phone … er, just stay away from guys in fauxhawks.

(2010-141465) 10 p.m.: Two men came into an apartment in the 400 block of South Parramore Avenue and threatened to stab a resident. "The suspects took the victim's pants and left the apartment."

March 26

(2010-141831) 4:20 a.m.: The Security Inn on West Colonial Drive lives up to its name. Someone tried to get into the lobby through the front window, but ran when an employee sounded an alarm.

(2010-120073) 9:21 a.m.: Three young girls reported that a middle-aged man in an old red car approached them around South Parramore Avenue and Grand Avenue, made sexual suggestions and exposed himself. Police released a composite sketch. Of his face, ya pervs.

(2010-142848) 5 p.m.: Welcome to Orlando, where we'll even steal your rocks. A man from Ontario had his Dodge van stolen. In it was $7,000 worth of stuff, including $5,000 in rare minerals he'd just bought.

(2010-143197) 9:15 p.m.: While a 78-year-old woman was at an Orlando Magic game, someone swiped her purse from her SUV parked in the 400 block of West Colonial Drive. But hey, at least the Magic won.

(2010-143299) 10:05 p.m.: As a man went to enter a building in the 3600 block of West Colonial two others knocked him down, robbed him and fled. "After 20 to 30 minutes, the victim was able to get someone's attention and call for help."

March 27

(2010-143563) 12:40 a.m.: A man was walking near West South Street and South Cottage Hill Road when two guys pulled up, pointed a gun — and demanded his pants. Then they hit him with the gun and took off.

(2010-143761) 4 a.m.: A man who really wanted his camera back kicked in the door of an apartment in the 1800 block of South Semoran Boulevard and waved a gun at the three women within. He got his own stolen camera returned, but demanded another, apparently as interest. He fired one bullet into the wall and left.

(2010-144717) 7 p.m.: Neighbors reported a bald man climbing in the back window of a house in the 800 block of North Lake Formosa Drive. Police found him outside. "It was determined that although the victim knew the suspect, the suspect did not have permission to break into the home and take items." How often is that given?

(2010-144848) 8:57 p.m.: A tubby guy followed six teenagers into a house in the 3700 block of Brandy Street, asking them "Is this where the party is at?" He then threatened everyone with a candle holder. Perhaps realizing this wasn't much of a threat, he left.

March 28

(2010-145218) 12:58 a.m.: Las Americas Supermarket on South Semoran Boulevard is a convenient place to get all your mugging done. Two guys mugged and pistol-whipped a man, then strolled over to another man and demanded money from him too.

March 29

(2010-147322) 2:30 p.m.: A man was mugged for his gold chain in the 1600 block of Mercy Drive by a guy with a "blotchy" complexion.

(2010-147769) 8:11 p.m.: A burglar pried open the sliding back door to a house in the 7000 block of Cadiz Boulevard, and was upstairs when the resident returned. So the burglar climbed out the upstairs bedroom window, jumped onto the patio roof, leaped to the ground and got away.

(2010-147878) 9:27 p.m.: The mugging at the corner of Ashford Boulevard and Kelmscott Place started normally enough. A man approached a woman, hinted that he was armed, and demanded money before getting strange. "The suspect grabbed the victim and carried her across the street where she was placed on the ground." He then ran off, taking nothing.

(2010-147928) 9:55 p.m.: At the corner of North Orange Avenue and East Colonial Drive, two guys said a man pointed a gun at them, then fled on a bicycle. He was quickly caught, but seems unclear on concept and goals of mugging.
