Police Beat

April 6 (2010-161581) 8:21 p.m.: Police said they stopped a man on West South Street and South Terry Avenue for a "bicycle violation," and that he dropped some pot as he tried — unsuccessfully — to get away. April 7 April 7 (2010-162245) 8 a.m.: Someone got into Froggers Grill & Bar on Conroy Road and "did $3,300 worth of televisions and damage," according to the report. At least they didn't commit refrigerators. (Kissimmee PD) 12:22 p.m.: A man in the 2200 block of Grand Cayman Court admitted to police that he shook his 3-month-old son and threw him on the bed because the kid wouldn't stop crying. That stopped it, all right: When the man came back in from a soothing cigarette, his son wasn't breathing. The child went to the hospital in critical condition, while daddy went to jail. (2010-163104) 2 p.m.: Someone scaled K&G Fashion Superstore on East Colonial Drive to take the coils from a rooftop air conditioner. Looks like copper is in this year. (2010-163056) 6:40 p.m.: So, guys in Shoe Land on South Semoran Boulevard, is that a gun in your pants or are you just … Oh. It is a gun, and you are just robbing the place. April 8 April 8 (2010-163498) 12:25 a.m.: A mugging victim at the corner of Dewey Avenue and Lake Lawne Avenue had nothing. This made his assailant so mad he fired a shot into the dirt. Now he's out the cost of a bullet, making the robbery a net loss. (2010-165175) 10:43 p.m.: A mystery man started a fire in the back of Publix on South John Young Parkway, causing minor damage. (2010-165251) 11 p.m.: Someone sawed through the locks of three storage trailers in the 6100 block of Contractors Row and swiped a stash of copper wire. April 9 April 9 (OCSO) 1:24 a.m.: A deputy had an altercation with a homeless guy at Citgo on University Boulevard. He tried Tasering the man as he ran, but missed; the deputy said the man pulled a knife, so he shot and killed him. Perhaps feeling a little defensive, the sheriff's office immediately released the dead guy's three-page rap sheet, full of contempt-of-court charges, minor violations that come with being homeless, and one drug-dealing charge. (OCSO) 3:43 a.m.: Deputies answered a home invasion call in the 5600 block of Westview Drive that quickly became even more complicated. They finally decided it stemmed from an earlier fight between teenagers. The loser's dad barged into the winner's house and put the teen in a headlock. Then someone fired a shotgun, according to the report. The man fled with pellets in his back and neck, while the teenager lost at least one finger to the shot. (2010-165774) 7 a.m.: Someone got into a building in the 800 block of Citrus Street and took two window air conditioners. How uncool. (2010-166074) 11:41 a.m.: Burglars pried open a back door in the 100 block of East King Street and stole two TVs — and a dog. (2010-166097) Noon: Over on the 2400 block of South Osceola Avenue, another backdoor job netted jewelry and two flat-screen TVs that the hapless owners had bought only four days earlier. April 10 April 10 (2010-167395) 4:52 a.m.: A man and woman were badly beaten with baseball bats and sticks in a parking lot in the 300 block of South Semoran Boulevard. (2010-168259) 11:30 a.m.: A checkbook, cup holder and $7 in change went missing from a car at Hidden Creek Condominiums on South Bend Square. No word on paper clips, pocket lint and small sticks. (2010-169184) 9:30 p.m.: A man said two guys shoved into his room at Vacation Lodge on South Orange Blossom Trail and robbed him, but he didn't get upset enough to report it for 12 hours. April 11 April 11 (2010-168972) 1:30 a.m.: Three men took a bicycle and $70 from a man at the corner of North Parramore Avenue and West Robinson Street. They're probably still arguing over who gets to ride it next. (2010-168962) 3:23 a.m.: A man possessed by road rage rammed his car into another at Commander Place Apartments on Commander Drive. Two guys in the offending Chevy Lumina were arrested. (2010-169072) 6:26 a.m.: A man was sitting in his car in the 700 block of South Texas Avenue when someone shot a bullet into his car door. April 12 April 12 (2010-170962) Noon: A water fountain was swiped off the side of South Seas Center on Curry Ford Road, the third theft there in two months. Maybe it's pirates. April 13 April 13 (2010-172069) 3 a.m.: Somebody heaved a brick through the glass door of a CVS drugstore on New Broad Street and walked out $2,344 in cigarettes. That should keep a pack-a-day habit busy for about three years. [email protected]
