Picks this week: Norma Jean, Soko and more

Great live music rattles Orlando every night

Opening Night – Peacock Room’s Shine Shed Room
Peacock Room opens its arms regularly to local musicians – like Maximino, Ark and Idi Bidi Midi Comidi, who perform this night – and if you’ve ever enjoyed art collective Shine Shed’s temporary stage installations there, prepare to long-term embrace their inspired new permanent piece at the venue.
8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the Peacock Room, free

Norma Jean
Christian metalcore pioneers Norma Jean have been aggressively preaching to their choir since the ’90s.
6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at Bombshell’s Tavern, $18-$22

The Lox with AmIAm and Jorok
The ’90s rap trio featuring Styles P, Sheek Louch and Jadakiss reunites and comes to Orlando, much to the delight of local hip-hop heads like AmIAm and Jorok, who will masterfully kick off the show.
7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at Firestone Live, $15-$40

Backbooth 10-Year Anniversary
Backbooth celebrates all weekend, but this night is a heavy hitter featuring golden oldies like Precious, fresh acts like Panther Camp and Join Hands, and everything in-between, like the Ludes. (See p. 46 for more info.)
7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at Backbooth, $7

Jon Snodgrass
He’s half the formative power behind Southern rock band Drag the River, formed with punk band All’s Chad Price, but his solo brand of folk punk stands just as tall on its own.
7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at Will’s Pub, $12-$14

Om Unit at Depth Charge
Electronic musician Om Unit might be best known for his Phillip D. Kick jungle-anthem footwork trickery, but his debut album, Threads, tossed trends and gimmicks aside to make an original, exciting statement in 2013.
9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, at Bullitt Bar, free

Soko
She’s been sampled by Cee Lo and supported M.I.A. on tour, but you might know French pop oddball Soko best from her song used in that ancient viral video of strangers kissing for the first time that made the rounds in March.
8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at the Peacock Room, $10, 21 and up
