People appreciating people

Balancing her daily load as an employment discrimination investigator for the city of Orlando, Patricia Newton is putting the finishing touches on the second annual Cultural Heritage Festival, building on what she oversaw last year, as well. It's all about recognizing the many cultures in Central Florida and bringing together families, businesses and individuals to celebrate the diversity.

With free parking and admission, the festival draws to the Central Florida Fairgrounds music and foods from local ethnic enclaves. From African drumming to Greek folk dancing, performances will be staggered on three stages, with national headliners topping the all-day lineups (Friday, Nestor Torres, Jonathan Butler; Saturday, Don Diego, The Manhattans). Bring money for sampling staples -- Polish sausage to soul food -- and sweets at the international food court, and for arts and crafts in the global village, set up with displays from different cultures.
