Online honor

In the world of online publishing, industry recognition doesn't get any better than an EPpy Award. And Orlando Weekly emerged as one of three finalists in the prestigious competition whose winners were announced Feb. 19 at the Interactive Newspapers '99 conference in Atlanta. The awards are sponsored by Editor & Publisher Interactive, the new-media division of Editor & Publisher Company.

A finalist for "Best Overall U.S. Newspaper Online Service -- Weekly, Community, Free & Alternative, Orlando Weekly's online site shared that honor with the San Francisco Bay Guardian and the winner, The Chronicle of Higher Education -- Academe Today.

In the category of "Best Overall U.S. Newspaper Online Service -- Circulation more than 100,000," the winner was The Washington Post, which dominated the competition by winning four awards.

Nearly 400 entries were submitted in 18 categories, juried by a team of 30. Find a complete list of nominees and winners at the E&P site.
